Brooks Ghost Running Shoes

Our Review

Verdict Good: The Brooks Ghost is a great medium-cushioned road running shoe that serves as an excellent entry point for new runners. It offers reliable comfort, solid durability, and consistent performance without overcomplicating things. These shoes also work very well for walking and long days on your feet. They’re a safe, dependable choice — especially if you want to save money by buying last year’s model.

After logging many miles in the Brooks Ghost series shoes, It’s safe to say they are one of the most reliable “no-fuss” road running shoes available. It has become my go-to recommendation for beginner and intermediate runners who aren’t ready to dive deep into highly technical shoes. The Ghost doesn’t try to be everything to everyone, and that’s exactly why it works so well for its intended purpose. I have personally tried the 15s, 16s and 17s, all great.

The Good ✅

  • Excellent everyday cushioning that feels comfortable right out of the box.
  • Very consistent from year to year — last year’s model is usually just as good as the newest version.
  • Impressive durability for a daily trainer, often lasting many (hundred?) miles.
  • Great for both running and walking, making it ideal for long days on your feet.
  • Forgiving and approachable for new runners who don’t yet have strong preferences.
  • Brooks customer service and their 90-day “Try It On” guarantee are outstanding.

The Not Good ❌

  • Not suitable for mixed terrain or trails — best kept strictly on pavement.
  • Not ideal for cross-training or gym workouts (They are more of a specialty road running shoe).
  • Lacks the exciting new technologies found in more premium or performance-oriented shoes.

Product Description

The Brooks Ghost is a classic neutral cushioned road running shoe designed for daily training and easy miles. Known for its smooth ride, reliable Brooks DNA Loft cushioning, and balanced fit, the Ghost delivers consistent comfort without aggressive stability features or highly specialized performance elements. It features a breathable engineered mesh upper, a flexible outsole with good road grip, and a midsole that provides soft yet responsive cushioning mile after mile.

This shoe has built a strong reputation as a dependable workhorse for beginner to intermediate runners, as well as anyone looking for a comfortable shoe for both running and everyday walking. Because the Ghost tends to evolve slowly from version to version, it remains one of the safest and most predictable choices in the running shoe market. Whether you’re just starting your running journey or simply need a reliable daily trainer that won’t break the bank (especially when previous models go on sale), the Brooks Ghost continues to be a popular and trustworthy option for pavement running and long comfortable days on your feet.

Verdict Good: A solid, no-nonsense road running shoe that excels at being a comfortable everyday trainer.
