Verdict Good: An easy, durable loader that has saved Will’s hands through thousands of rounds. His only regret is not buying two.

Will has had the maglula UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader in black for years, and he uses it to load a wide variety of double-stack pistol mags: Glock 19 and 17, SIG P320 and P365, plus miscellaneous others. He says the common praise and gripes you’ll read about it are about right. One gripe he doesn’t share is accidentally locking it in storage mode, which he calls a non-issue. There was no learning curve for him. He has seen others struggle with it, but he can’t understand how. In his words, it’s really pretty easy and a huge hand saver.

Because it’s just plastic, durability was an early concern, but there have been no issues through thousands of rounds and counting. Where it falls short for him is very small magazines: it isn’t great with subcompact single-stacks like the Colt Mustang or SIG P938. His summary is simple: “Should have bought two.” His most common issue is forgetting to bring it or leaving it in another bag. If you haul a dedicated range bag, like the YETI Crossroads 60L Duffel Will uses for competitions, that’s an easy place to keep one.

The Good ✅

  • Huge Hand Saver: It’s really pretty easy to use and a huge hand saver.
  • No Learning Curve: There was none for Will, and he finds accidentally locking it in storage mode to be a non-issue.
  • Handles His Double-Stacks: It loads his Glock 19 and 17 and SIG P320 and P365 mags, plus miscellaneous others.
  • Tougher Than It Looks: It’s just plastic, but it has had no issues through thousands of rounds and counting.
  • Worth Owning Two: Will’s take: “Should have bought two.”

The Not Good ❌

  • Not Great for Tiny Mags: In Will’s experience, it isn’t great for very small magazines like subcompact single-stacks, such as the Colt Mustang or SIG P938.
  • Easy to Leave Behind: His most common issue is forgetting to bring it or leaving it in another bag, which is why he wishes he had bought two.
  • Some People Struggle: Will had no learning curve and can’t see why anyone would, but he has seen others struggle with it.

Product Description

The maglula UpLULA Universal Pistol Magazine Loader is a pocket-size loader and unloader that maglula says handles virtually all 9mm Luger up to .45 ACP single- and double-stack magazines of all manufacturers, from the first round to the last. maglula lists 9mm Luger, .357 SIG, 10mm, .40 and .45 ACP, plus most .380 ACP single- and double-stack mags and 1911 mags. It self-adjusts to the magazine with no inserts, spacers or adjustments, and maglula says the rounds drop in with no thumb pushing, at up to one round per second.

maglula makes it from durable reinforced polymer and lists a weight of 72 grams (2.53 oz). For single-stack mags, maglula sells a separate 1911AI Aligner Insert that narrows the loader’s inner cavity to reduce mag wiggling. maglula also lists a few mags the UpLULA doesn’t load, including Glock G36 and .45 G.A.P. mags, SMG mags and mags with less than 8.0 mm between the lips, and notes it may not load the last round in a few types of mags. Will’s is black (p/n UP60B), and maglula offers it in several other colors. maglula covers its products with a limited one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
