The verdict Not Good: A poor fit with too little stretch for the positions tactical fitness demands. Will never ended up using them for what he bought them for.

Our Verified Review

Owned and tested by our reviewer, Will

Will bought the GORUCK Challenge Pants in brown/tan for tactical fitness competitions. He never ended up using them there because of the poor fit and limited movement, and he didn’t have them for long.

Fit was the biggest problem. They’re snug, there isn’t enough room in the seat, and the lower legs are very baggy. The stretch wasn’t enough either. When it comes to range of motion, Will’s take is simple: no good, and none of the challenging positions he needs work in them. For tactical fitness, that ruled them out.

For pants that did work for him on the same kind of training days, Will wears the REI Co-op Trailmade Pants for range days, training and competitions. They allowed a full-range squat, and his verdict on them is Good.

The Good ✅

  • Fast-Drying Fabric (Per GORUCK): GORUCK describes its ToughDry fabric as super fast-drying and abrasion resistant. Will didn’t keep them long enough to judge durability or drying.
  • Training-Focused Features (Per GORUCK): GORUCK adds cargo pockets that zip securely, articulated knees and a diamond gusset. On Will, they still didn’t move well enough.

The Not Good ❌

The deal-breaker is tagged.

  • Deal-breaker Poor Fit: They’re snug, with not enough room in the seat and very baggy lower legs.
  • Not Enough Stretch: Will found the stretch insufficient, and none of the challenging positions he needs work in them.
  • Never Made It to Competition: He bought them for tactical fitness competitions but never used them there because of the poor fit and limited movement.

It offers them in Coyote, Ranger Green, Charcoal and Black, in waist and inseam sizes from 30×30 to 40×34. Will’s pair is brown/tan.

What others think

How our verdict compares with other reviews

Overall reception: Very well liked. GORUCK’s page shows 4.8 out of 5 from 478 reviews, and All Day Ruckoff rated them 4.8 out of 5 after a year of GORUCK events.

Where owners agree: Reviewers say the fabric is tough and quick to dry and the pants handle rucking and hard workouts. Fit at Midlife found no restriction squatting, deadlifting or running.

Where owners disagree: Fit. All Day Ruckoff says they run fitted and most people size up, and owners in a GORUCK subreddit thread disagree on whether to size up or down. Some owners also say the lower leg is loose and doesn’t taper.

Our take: Will’s experience is with the fit complaints, not the praise. His deal-breaker is the poor fit: snug in the seat, very baggy in the lower legs and short on stretch, so the positions tactical fitness demands didn’t work for him.
