Our Verified Review
Owned and tested by our reviewer, Will
Will has four Harbor Freight metal .50-caliber ammo cans and primarily stores them indoors. What he likes most is the price: Harbor Freight carries them cheaper than most other places and puts them on sale from time to time. He finds them great for keeping ammo and any other small gear organized.
The seal is good — what he would expect — and he has never had water or moisture issues. The latch and hinge work great, and you can slide the lid sideways off the box to get it out of the way during use. His cans have not had gasket or lid-alignment differences between them. The label came off fine with no sticky residue. They live a hard life and are holding up well. His verdict: Good.
For gear that needs foam padding, like his rifle magnifiers, Will uses Harbor Freight’s Apache 1800 weatherproof case, which he also rated Good.

What others think
How our verdict compares with other reviews
Overall reception: Coverage is thin. We found little independent editorial coverage of Harbor Freight’s metal .50-cal ammo can beyond its own product pages and owner chatter, so there’s no broad consensus.
Where owners agree: Harbor Freight pitches it as an all-steel can with a weatherproof gasket for ammo, tools or electronics, and owners mostly buy it for the low price.
Where owners disagree: We found no real debate about it. The usual owner advice is to check the gasket before you buy and to treat it as weather-resistant storage.
Our take: Will’s four cans live indoors and have had no water or moisture issues. The latch and hinge work great, the lid slides off sideways and they hold up to hard use at a low price, which matches what Harbor Freight promises.
