Verdict Good: A Medium that fits well at 5’1″, with low-set belt loops that make total sense in a tactical fitness event.
Finding range and training bottoms that fit a smaller frame and actually work with a belt and holster is a surprisingly tall order. Most tactical pants are cut for guys, and most leggings can’t hold anything heavier than a phone. Andrea, who stands 5’1″, wears the Howitzer Viscusi Leggings in Medium, and they fit her well. She says the length, waistband and pockets are “perfect and fall right into place.”
She wears them for range days and tactical fitness competitions, and so far there are “no signs of wear and tear.” The main thing to note is that the belt loops for the range belt sit lower than she expected. Having the belt ride lower feels a bit unusual at first, but they “end up working out well for tactical movement,” and in her words, it “makes total sense once you use them in a tactical fitness event.”
The Good ✅
- Small-Frame Fit: At 5’1″, the Medium fits well, with a length and waistband that are perfect for her.
- Pockets That Work: The pockets fall right into place, and Howitzer designed them to hold small essentials like magazines or a phone.
- Built for a Range Belt: The belt loops end up working well for tactical movement with a range belt.
- Holding Up: After range days and tactical fitness competitions, there are no signs of wear and tear.
The Not Good ❌
- Low-Set Belt Loops Take Getting Used To: The belt loops for the range belt sit lower than Andrea expected, and having the belt ride lower feels a bit unusual at first, though she says it makes total sense once you use them in a tactical fitness event.
Product Description
Howitzer’s women’s tactical legging is the Viscusi Legging, a signature design by Michelle Viscusi. The standout detail is belt loops strategically placed to work with an inner Velcro belt and an outer gun belt carrying an OWB holster, which is something most leggings simply can’t do.
Per Howitzer, they’re made from a double-brushed, high-compression, ultra-soft fabric with four-way stretch (78% recycled polyester, 22% spandex), with a high-rise contour-fit waistband, two side pockets for small essentials including magazines or phones, and a 25.5-inch inseam. The solid Viscusi Leggings come in several colors, and there’s also a Viscusi Camo version.
For smaller frames, the leggings come in sizes S through XL, and the fixed 25.5-inch inseam is worth comparing against your own. Andrea wears a Medium at 5’1″, and the length is perfect for her. Shopping for a range belt to go with them? Andrea also reviewed the Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt, which fits her 5’1″ frame in size Small.
