Verdict Good: Easy to use and very easy to grab a mag from, and it keeps Andrea’s Slickster slick and streamlined for movement.
On a smaller frame, every piece of gear on the front of a vest has to earn its spot, because there’s less room between the chest and the belt to work with. Andrea, who stands 5’1″ with a petite frame, runs the Ferro Concepts Kangaroo Front Flap on the front of her Ferro Concepts Slickster plate carrier, and she says it sits perfectly. Just as important for a minimalist carrier like the Slickster, it keeps the vest slick instead of bulking it up.
Andrea uses the Kangaroo Front Flap for tactical fitness competitions, where her kit has to keep up with her as she moves. What she loves most is that it’s easy to use and keeps the vest streamlined for movement, and when it’s time to reload, she says it’s very easy to grab a magazine. Her verdict is a simple Good, and she didn’t name anything about it that bugs her.
The Good ✅
- Sits Perfectly on the Slickster: On Andrea’s Slickster, it sits perfectly, even on her 5’1″ petite frame.
- Keeps the Vest Slick: It keeps her vest slick and streamlined for movement.
- Easy Mag Grabs: Andrea says it’s very easy to grab a magazine.
- Easy to Use: Andrea loves how easy it is to use.
- Competition-Ready: She runs it in tactical fitness competitions.
- Made for the Slickster: Ferro designs all of its ADAPT front flaps to work directly with the Slickster, using G-hooks and Velcro for rapid attach and detach.
The Not Good ❌
- Inserts Sold Separately: Andrea didn’t have a complaint of her own, but it’s worth knowing that Ferro designed the Kangaroo Front Flap around its magazine inserts, which it sells as separate products, so factor one in when you set it up for magazines.
Product Description
The Kangaroo Front Flap is part of Ferro Concepts’ ADAPT Carrier System. Ferro says it was designed to use its magazine inserts (KTS/Turnovers) while letting you attach MOLLE-compatible pouches to the front. All ADAPT front flaps are designed to work directly with the Slickster, Chesty Rig, FCPC and a wide range of other carriers, and they attach and detach quickly using G-hooks and Velcro. Ferro lists the Kangaroo Front Flap as UCAS (Universal Carrier Attachment Standard) compatible, made in the USA and Berry compliant.
For AR magazines, Ferro says its KTS Triple 556, which houses three Haley Strategic MP2 magazine retention inserts, can be inserted into the Kangaroo Front Flap, and its Kangaroo Insert – Triple 556 can be used in a single-stack configuration in the flap, with elastic shock cord and S&S pull tabs for retention. Ferro offers the Kangaroo Front Flap in MultiCam, MultiCam Black, Coyote Brown, Ranger Green and Black. It now also sells a Kangaroo Front Flap – V2, which Ferro builds with three full rows of MOLLE on the front, vertical webbing on the sides and pull-tab mounting for three AR or four sub gun magazines (inserts sold separately).
For smaller frames, placement is the thing to watch: a front flap sits on the lower front of the carrier, so on a shorter torso it’s worth checking where it lands relative to your belt. On Andrea’s 5’1″ frame, it sits perfectly on her Slickster. Building out a small-frame competition kit? Andrea also reviewed the Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt, which fits her 5’1″ frame in size Small.
